Is Osteopathy Safe For Babies?
Yes. Osteopathy is one of the safest approaches to assessing and treating your baby or child.
Your baby’s body is still developing, their bones, muscles, and joints are extremely delicate. Osteopathy provides a gentle approach to assessment and treatment which is why we recommend osteopathy for helping you and your baby for any challenges you may be facing.
As your child develops, they may experience:
- Restricted mobility due to tight or sore muscles
- Neck pains from having a preference for engaging one side of the neck more
- Knee, leg, or hip pain from learning to crawl and/or walk
Our osteopaths realise how important it is to understand your child and treat them in a way that is comfortable for them both mentally and physically. It’s stressful to take care of babies, especially when they’re experiencing pain. We support you to make the process as easy for you as possible.
If you are pregnant and feel that you need some assistance to manage pain that has come on or is worsening since you have become pregnant, osteopathy treatment may assist with pain management while keeping your baby safe.
How Can Osteopathy Help My Baby?
Cranial osteopathy may be used to assist your baby with a range of conditions relating to their development such as:
- feeding complications
- limb or joint movement problems
- difficulties in movement
- breathing difficulties due to muscle restriction
- sleeping problems
- birth trauma
Cranial osteopathy is a more subtle form of regular osteopathy. It uses gentle pressure on the head primarily, but may also include the spine and other areas of the body.
One of our osteopaths will ask questions about the medical history of both the mother and the baby in order to provide the best treatment and advice moving forward.
These gentle manual techniques can make subtle changes to improve to your child’s body and to promote healthy growth. Contact our friendly team of osteopaths to see how we may be able to assist you and your child.
